16th April 2010 Workampers

This week has been hectic, we had Richard and Shana come in late last week followed by James and Melba who are joining us for their first workamping experience. Both couples went straight to work with the arrival of our container from England on Tuesday. Since then we have been unpacking and sorting our stuff. We also opened the office for the season and are finishing up the Rec Halll, the Gallery should be finished soon at which time we will have a soft opening followed by a proper opening when the season is well under way.

11th APRIL 2010 Gordon Possien

Gordon Possien has been earning his living as a carver of wood since 1979. Each of his wood carvings is an original creation.
An endless imagination is his main ingredient for his talent of working with wood.

Gordon's studio is located high in the Colorado Rockies in the small town of Pitkin, Colorado.
At an elevation of 9,245 feet, Pitkin is on the old Denver and South
Park railroad line in Gunnison County, 28 miles northwest of Gunnison. Pitkin was Colorado's first mining camp west of the continental divide. Continuous discovery of mines in the
vicinity brought Pitkinto life and sustained it for many years. In 1884, the hotels and restaurants were serving over five hundred guests on Sundays.
The town boasted of having over two thousand inhabitants. The remote
mountain hamlet was booming! Today, the population is around 100 inhabitants, just a quite little laid back mountain town.
